The Mid-America Regional Council Solid Waste Management District (MARC SWMD), the regional solid waste planning agency serving local governments across the Kansas City metropolitan region, now accepts paper and plastic to-go cups as part of its residential recycling program.
This expansion gives over 748,000 households across the KC metro the opportunity to recycle paper and plastic beverage cups. With support from a communications grant provided by FPI, MARC SWMD will launch an education and outreach campaign to ensure its residents understand how to recycle these items correctly.
The campaign will aim to raise awareness about proper paper and plastic cup recycling practices and highlight the already accepted take-out items, including paper bags, molded fiber drink carriers and aluminum foil packaging.
The campaign will feature website updates, recycling videos, social media content and animations, billboards, digital ads and English- and Spanish-language radio spots.
